These fun holidays are specifically designed for both beginners, who want to learn to cross-country ski, and more experienced skiers, who want to develop their skills. Both classic and skating techniques are taught, and by the end of one week we aim to take beginners to a Bronze Award standard, as well as providing extensive full day ski touring. All our skills holidays are designed for skiers of every age and ability level.
This year we have also dedicated three of our skills holidays to skiers preparing for the following ski marathon races: the Swiss Engadin Marathon (42kms skate or classic), Norway’s Birkebeiner Race (54kms classic) and the Norwegian Inga-Låmi (30kms ladies only classic). We can provide more information about these three races on request.
Daily cross-country ski tours are included in all these holidays, though the distance covered and the degree of technical difficulty will depend on the ability and requirements of the group.
The holidays are structured for a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 16 skiers. The Instructor/client ratio will not exceed 1:8.
These holidays give experienced skiers the chance to spend six days skiing from hotel to hotel on prepared tracks in the 'Peer Gynt' region of the Gudbrandsdal. The week starts at Dalsaeter in Espedalen, where we spend the first day regaining 'ski legs'. On day 2, the first day of the tour, we ski through some truly memorable mountain scenery to Fefor, where accommodation is provided at the Fefor Høgfellshotell. It was here that Captain Scott spent his last winter preparing for his epic expedition to Antarctica!
The third day is spent skiing through high forests and then down the valley to the Gålå ski arena. The route finally winds its way up to the Wadahl Høgfjellshotell in the attractive mountain village of Gålå. This is the base for all our skills holidays and telemark courses.
On day 4, we ski to Lauvåsen, (www.lauvaasen.net). Built originally as a hunting lodge in 1898, the Lauvåsen Fjellstue has had many uses over the years, including that of a registered clinic for asthmatics. It has now been converted into very comfortable, yet traditional, accommodation with its own high quality restaurant. We also spend day 5 at Lauvåsen, where you are offered the option of a 'Norwegian Experience Day', or a further day's ski tour in the local area.
On the last day we ski back to Wadahl, using a different route.
Technical coaching can be included throughout the week.
If you wish to join one of these holidays, you should have at least two seasons cross-country skiing experience.
This holiday has been especially designed to give you an introduction to Norwegian 'hut to hut' mountain touring, and to provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to undertake such a holiday with friends or family. The holiday will be based at Venabu in the Rondane National Park, where you will be taught winter safety and survival techniques including snow hole construction, the use of avalanche transceivers and how to ski safely off-piste through the mountains. The finale to this holiday will be a ski tour, spending two or three nights in Norwegian mountain huts. You will use metal edged touring skis and most of the skiing will be away from tracks. You will need a good standard of clothing and equipment, details of which are available in our Information Pack, which will be sent on request.
If you wish to join this holiday, you should have a minimum of two seasons cross-country skiing experience and a good (cross-country) downhill technique.
Have you ever watched (and envied) a free-heel skier 'telemark' gracefully down the mountain and thought … I wish I could do that? Well now’s your chance to learn!
This holiday is designed to give you the opportunity to master Telemark skiing using the correct modern equipment. You will be based in the Wadahl Høgsfjellhotell, but the instruction will be divided between the comparatively gentle slopes at Gålå and the more testing pistes at Kvitfjell, and Hafjell near Lillehammer.
If you wish to join this holiday, you should be able to ski to good parallel standard on alpine skis.
